Quantum Mechanical Interaction - Free Measurements
A novel manifestation of nonlocality of quantum mechanics is presented. It is shown that it is possible to ascertain the existence of an object in a given region of space without interacting with it. The method might have practical applications for delicate quantum experiments.
متن کاملInteraction-free measurements of quantum objects
We show that it is possible in principle to realize a unit-efficiency initial state preserving interaction-free measurements (IFM) of quantum objects characterized by their superpositions. Some generalized work is also discussed. c 2001 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (000.1600) Classical and quantum physics; (270.0270) Quantum optics The concept of Interaction free measurement (IFM) was...
متن کاملInteraction-free measurements by quantum Zeno stabilization of ultracold atoms
Quantum mechanics predicts that our physical reality is influenced by events that can potentially happen but factually do not occur. Interaction-free measurements (IFMs) exploit this counterintuitive influence to detect the presence of an object without requiring any interaction with it. Here we propose and realize an IFM concept based on an unstable many-particle system. In our experiments, we...
متن کاملAre Interaction-free Measurements Interaction Free?
In 1993 Elitzur and Vaidman introduced the concept of interaction-free measurements which allowed finding objects without “touching” them. In the proposed method, since the objects were not touched even by photons, thus, the interactionfree measurements can be called as “seeing in the dark”. Since then several experiments have been successfully performed and various modifications were suggested...
متن کاملNoninvasive Electron Microscopy with Interaction-free Quantum Measurements
Electron microscopy has significantly impacted many areas of science and engineering due to its unprecedented atomic and molecular resolution. Yet, the imaging of biological and other sensitive specimens has been limited because of sample damage induced by the energetic electrons necessary for imaging. The radiation dose received by a specimen during imaging with an electron microscope operatin...
